Baptism of Janeth!!!

February 25, 2013

Panoramic of Cartagena.
Hey! So recap from last pday we went to the castillo again and it was still super sweet. We went to the Centro before and ate Subway, which is really expensive.

Los Zapatos de Cartagena
But the craziest thing was when we came back to the internet place Elder Anderson threw up. It was pretty funny, but turned out he was really sick so not so funny after.
Elder Anderson - Barf-o-Rama

Nug - Yoga Master.
The week started out super awesome until I called the office becasue my toe problems still continue and the office told me to go get them cut by a lady that gives pedicures.... ya. Wasn´t happy about that, and was even more unhappy when the lady was cutting them. Apparently I got the short end of the stick on the gene pool because my toenails naturally grow ingrown... yay.

It hurt soo bad because she basically did was the doctor did, just without anestesia. I almost cried, but held it together, but I didn´t go out that day because I couldn´t really walk with shoes.

Nathan & Janeth.
Janeth & her son Lincoln.

Saturday was awesome because we had a baptism!! Janeth! It was great! She was super excited for it and everything went good. Happy to see the changes in her life. Now we just have to get other people to commit to baptism!

Nathan, Janeth and Nathan's Compation Elder Ortiz (from Barranquilla)

This week were going to be working hard to get some dates set, so hopefully everything goes well. We didn´t really do anything for pday, just went and printed off some pictures and chilled. I think we might go do something fun next week.
Captain Jack Sparrow.

Well that´s kinda it for this week, nothing else really happened, but I´m kinda sick right now so I´m super sniffly in the lessons and just try not to cough.

Love you all! Abrozos y Besos!

Progress & Baptism Coming Up! - Two Weeks of Letters

February 11, 2013

Hey! How`s it going? Okay to recap this week honestly it was a little lame, we worked so hard / walked everywhere, but so many of our lessons fell through and not a lot of people wanted to talk to us. We spent alot of time wandering around and I spent a lot of time sweating.

We had some really good lessons this week too, super pumped for our investigator Janeth. She`s progressing really well, reading the scriptures, praying, and coming to church. She has a baptismal date for the 23rd of this month so I`m really excited for that!

We finally had a ward council meeting and talked about the needs of the ward, which was fantastic because we don`t have any ward missionaries and our ward mission leader is going to be leaving on his mission in March so we really need some help in that part, but hopefully now we can get the members more involved in the missionary process.

Today we didn`t go anywhere cool for pday because everyone else doesn`t have money, but we did go to McDonalds and I ate 3 and a half burgers. It was great, except the dollar menu doens`t exist here so that was the only bummer. After we played Pass the Pigs forever because none of the Latinos knew what is was so they loved it. But ya, that`s kinda it for this week, didn`t do a whole lot.

This week we have a Zone Conference with the mission president then right after a Conference with the ward leaders in the stake so Wednesday is going to be a really long day.

Love you all! Abrazos y besos!

February 18, 2013

Hey! I´m writing in the morning because today we´re going to go the Castillo later and we want to have more time to walk around so I´ll be sending the pictures next week along with the baptism we have this saturday!!!!!

Super excited for this weekend and the baptism for Janeth. She´s super awesome with coming to church, reading the book of mormon and everything.

This week we also had Zone Conference and the president was here for it. It was really good, learned alot of new things and a lot of things that we have to do better/improve.

This week was super rough with the lessons, we passed by soo many people and talked with sooo many people, but no one wanted to listen to us. Also for some reason everyone decided to gang up on me because I can´t roll my rr´s. Even investigators! I felt like the lion from the Taco Bell comercial ´carne´.

Well really not a lot happened this last week. Kinda slow for us, toesnails are slowly growing back, But hoping and praying this week will be better. I´ll send pictures next week.

Love you all! Abrazos y besos!

Super Week! Super Pictures!

February 4, 2013

Elder Molina and I
Hello! Well, to recap what we did last week for pday.... we went to a couple of different places because it was Elder Cayoja`s last pday. First, we went up to La Popa (Church up on a hill) and took some pictures, ran around the church, and hopped back into the taxi. We were only up there for about 20 minutes- just to take pictures, but while we were there we saw a huge cruise ship at the dock and a ton of Americans. It was weird seeing white people there!

After La Popa, we booked it down to the walls of Cartagena and walked on those for a while and around the town.  Then we went to the beach to take more pictures. All in all super fun day, but my toes we killing me after all of that running around. Tuesday I didn`t leave the house, and yes I watched 17 Miracles again. We had transfers on Wednesday and....... I`m still here in my same area! Alpes 1 Cartagena! But I did get a new comp. His name is Elder Ortiz and he`s from Barranquilla. He originally was serving in Bogota but was transferred because of some medicals problems, (the altitude was bad for him) so he`s serving here now, but he`s a really good missionary. I'm still getting to know him..... so that`s it for him.
This week we had some really good lessons. One of our investigators, Janeth, is doing super awesome and we had a lesson with her and a couple in our ward and it was super awesome! Also, on Saturday she came to a baptism of some other missionaries and really liked it.

I also had another amazing experience. We were walking around on Saturday and we didn`t have a lesson planned, so I really wanted to find this guy ,Domingo, one our old investigators. He was super awesome with the lessons, but in December he moved and we had no idea where he went. We passed by his friends house on Saturday and Domingo was there!!! I was sooo happy! Now we`re going to be teaching him again! Super pumped.

Today(p-day) we didn`t do anything. I just slept in a hammock for about 2 hours (super exciting). Hopefully next week we`re going to go the Castillo. Oh, also when we had transfers, the comp of elder Anderson was still in the office because he had a surgery done, so a mini-missionary came with us for the week. The kid`s name is William and he speaks English. He went to a bilingual school so a ton of the time we were talking English with him. He`s going to friend request me on Facebook so whoever is controlling mine right now, accept him and you can talk with him.

Ya, that`s about it. Pretty good week, should be getting letters and packages this week so I`ll let you know what I get!

Love you all! Abrazos y besos!

Toe-tally Laid Up Week!

January 28, 2013

What´s up family! This week was pretty uneventful since I stayed inside the entire week. To reacap what happened last Monday.... I told the zone leaders that my toes were still hurting badly and that I had two more ingrown toenails. We weren´t doing anything so we took off to the Clinica. We got there and I told the doctor that they were hurting really badly and needed to have them cut again. He responded that we needed to take out the nail, so that´s what they did.
Me the morning after the took out my toenails. I look like I´m going to die because I didn't sleep during the night because my toes were throbbing and killing me!
Elder Molina, my doctor, cleaning my toes
First, they shot my toes up with a pantload of anestesia (Even two toes that they didn´t do anything with), then wrenched off my toe nails. It was freaky to watch. Later we got home and I started feeling a little pain, but not much until I went to bed. My toes were throbbing and hurt superbadly so I didn´t sleep much at all that night.

Changing the bandages was heck the first time. I changed them everyday so my toes never looked like the sith lord again. Then again on Thursday, we went back to the Clinica to get another toenail cut and another ´cleaned´ which they just scraped my toes and it hurt really bad.

We lucked out and got two kids from another ward to come and be mini misionaries with us during the week, Sammy and Adrian. They switched off days one going out with my comp and the other staying with me. I taught them some of the missionary lessons and answered questions that they had.

Also, because there wasn´t really anything to do and studying got boring really fast, I watched 17 Miracles about 5 or 6 times. Great movie.

The zone leaders had intercambios with some of the asistents (I don´t know if that is spelled right) to the presidents so they brought some packages from the office. No letters which kinda bummed me out because I know that I have letters from Granny. But ya, one package from Mom with bananagrams (which I got owned in), the ipod for my comp, speakers, and the photo albums! Also one from Grandma and Grandpa Allred with a ton of M&Ms!!! Greatest thing ever to eat during 17 Miracles! I really didn´t do much during the week, feel really lazy.

But yesterday we finally had an investigator come to church!!! I was so happy! She only came for sacrament and left after because she had to work but hey, She came to church! That´s good enough for me right now.
drnorberg@gmail.com
Ya, that´s about it for this week, really not much happened. I'm going to see how well wearing shoes goes today, I really don´t want to stay in the house anymore. We´ve got transfers coming tomorrow and I´m thinking that I´m going to be staying here because my comp has to go to the office in Barranquilla to have surgery. He has a cyst where no man should ever have one. Also, this next transfer is going to be 8 weeks long because of the whole schedule shift in the MTC.

Until next week! Hopefully my toes heal up quick! Spanish is getting better each week.  Abrazos y besos!

NOTE:  I had to include a "happier" picture of Nathan!

Less Fun than a Hobbit with Athlete's Foot!

January 21, 2013

Hey so I literal have no time to talk. We went to the Clinica to get my toes  checked out and they ended up not only cutting my toenails, but they took the entire freaking thing. I AM MISSING TWO OF MY TOENAILS!!!!!! Both on my big toes! I´m out for at least 5 days! Sucks!

They stabbed me with anestesia a bunch of times and even two other toes that they didn´t even cut, kinda mad about that. So ya, this week is going to be super lame, I´ll write more next week about what happened this last week! And hopefully I´ll be able to walk too!

Love you all! Abrazos y besos!

Need Investigators to Come to Church!

January 14, 2013

Well this week was pretty good, founds some new investigatores and a family that is really awesome. We taught the Plan of Salvation to them and the mom was super happy because it was so clear and she understands it. The lesson was super awesome, they loved it.

We`ve been really trying hard to change the way we teach. To first find out a question or problem that a person has, and then help them in that way instead of just powering through a lesson.

Kinda bummer sunday, none of the investigators came to church, even though we had soo many people tell us that they were going to come. We even passed by a couple people and they were sleeping. Not happy. Hoping really bad that some come next week.

We had interviews with the President on Saturday so he also brought mail, but I think I got robbed because I only got one letter, and I know that Granny is the most faithful writer and I know I have letters from her. Hopefully next mail drop I`ll get them.

Interview with the president was good, super short, just talked about how I was doing and if I had any questions or concerns. Only lasted like 8 minutes.

Today was just a chill pday because we don`t get money till tomorrow so no one has money to do anything. Literally everyone but me and Elder Anderson are flat broke right now. Next week should be funner.

Ya, that`s about it, not a ton happened, just trying to find new people to teach and get the ward to help.

Love you all! Abrazos y besos!

Painting in the New Year 2013!

January 7, 2013

How`s it going! This week started out rough because of the new year and everyone was partying (there was quite a bit of alcohol). But after the 3rd everyone was back to normal.

We had an intercambio last week and I was with Elder Rodriguez. I had one with him before, but a long time ago. But we had an awesome day, taught a bunch of lessons. Got 6 new investigators, it was great.

Not shaving cream!
We also had a little service project with one of our investigators and helped paint his house, but of course it ended in a paint fight. It was all fun until we had to leave and then he told us that one of the types of paint we used is for metal and doesn`t come out. And of course, that was the paint that was plastered in my hair and on my face. So we spent two hours getting the paint out. It was horrible and hurt really bad.

White Neck!
We changed times for church this week so it was at 8 in the morning instead of 9, which is kind of a bummer because it means that it`s more of an excuse for people to say that it`s `too early`. We`re hoping this week that we can get more people commited to a baptismal date and have them come to church.

Scrub-a-dub-dub!  Hard stuff to remove!
The weeks weather was brutal, not a cloud in the sky, just a ball of fire burning us. Stick to the shadows it the best advice ever.

Some of the Money we use in Colombia.
The zone leaders went to Barranquilla on Thursday but didn`t come back with mail so I was super bummed, but we have interviews with the president this Saturday so I`m praying that he`ll bring some letters/packages! Well that`s about it, love you all! Abrazos y besos!
